The Blakesburg Historical Preservation Society is honored and humbled to announce our sponsorship of the annual Audrey Chisman Memorial Scholarship. New for 2015, this award was created first and foremost to honor Audrey Chisman and to further her belief in and commitment to education. Audrey was not only a dedicated teacher, but also a kind and gentle-spirited woman of incredible character and integrity, who consistently and unselfishly gave of herself to others and to her community. In admiration of Audrey’s life and career, BHPS would like to encourage and reward young people who have chosen to give back to their community by means of volunteerism and community service with a $500 scholarship award.
Available to graduating seniors from the Eddyville/Blakesburg/Fremont school district, the Audrey Chisman Memorial Scholarship application can be obtained at the E/B/F High School in Eddyville, Iowa. Eligibility considerations include a demonstrated track record of volunteerism or community service work, and the intention to obtain an AA and/or BA in the fields of history and/or teaching from a 4–year/2–year accredited college or university. All student candidates meeting the requirements specified in the scholarship application will be considered, although living in the original Blakesburg school district may bear weight in the final awards decision. The application deadline is April 1st.
We encourage all who are reading about this scholarship to get to know what a wonderful person Audrey Chisman was by reading her story. The Blakesburg Historical Preservation Society is truly honored to be a part of the legacy she has left behind.
